Drosselmeyer's workshop...

    Newer Older

...As the hour neared midnight, and the snow fell heavily outside the window, Drosselmeyer put the final touches to his newest creation - The Nutcracker...

...I'm not a particularly big fan of ballet, or of The Nutcracker story, but the character of
    Drosselmeyer has always fascinated me...

I'd originally envisioned him as a shadowy Conrad Veidt figure - tall and elegantly gaunt, all velvety and hypnotic-eyed, perched on top of the grandfather clock like a raven in his black cloak, preventing the midnight chimes...

...and I'd still like to have a go at drawing him that way - maybe in the new year.

But for this Xmassy picture he mellowed and became someone a little gentler-looking and less sinister, more an aging grandfatherly Harold Gould, perhaps...

and I gave him a cat. Who I've decided is called Yuri.
    .............

And last but not least, here's some cheering festive-ness from ...

    Raymond Briggs...

    Kay Harker and Cole Hawlins...

    Kermit and co...

    and Jethro Tull...

and it wouldn't be Xmas without George Bailey (with a little help from Clarence...) :-)

Wishing you all a most magical... merry...sparkly...joyful... and very happy Xmas-time!
