I Am Curious (Yellow) (Peep)

I Am Curious (Yellow) (Peep)

Over at the Gemini & Scorpio loft, there's an invasion of side-show Peeps going on - the afternoon and long-weekend evening event is a Peepshow Carnival, with "Peep" as in, well, Peeps.

You can guess your weight in Peeps, and toss rings at Peeps, and throw darts at Peeps, and shoot arrows at Peeps. You can enter a raffle for Peep prizes. For the cost of one attraction ticket there is, of course, a Peep peep-show. Adults only, it's scandalous what those little marshmallow bunnies get up to when you let them.

And smack in the middle of the action is a pole-dancing Peep go-go girl, which seems natural until you think about it. She's completely charming, and I'm happy to find she thinks it's as great a joke as the rest of us.

The party is a fundraiser for G&S henchman Sal Genna, who is working toward a triathlon with Team in Training, a program that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society via athletics. The Peeps are happy to help out.

Kate, in Cobble Hill Park

Kate, in Cobble Hill Park

While I'm busy gallivanting across the western United States over the next couple of weeks, Kate is moving south to Raleigh. We've been talking about spending some time in the studio before she takes off, but what with time zipping past as fast as days through a holiday weekend, we're not going to make it before she leaves the city.

This afternoon we steal a few minutes after her shift at Ted and Honey, and as the afternoon light fails we shoot a few brisk moments in the park next door.

Kermit Ruffins, Markey Park

Kermit Ruffins, Markey Park

In the course of my too-brief trip to New Orleans, I manage to see Kermit Ruffins twice: once at Vaughan's on his regular Thursday-night gig, and once in Markey Park in Bywater during the Mirliton Festival.

The what? Yes, that's what I said too. It's a fruit that looks a little like an apple crossed with Audrey II, and it tastes a little like green pears and kale (in a good way). Anyway, the mirliton has a festival, and Kermit is headlining, and night falls over a happy field of mirliton-filled fans.

Izébel, Blue, Darkly (Old Masters Remix)

Izébel, Blue, Darkly (Old Masters Remix)

I always like to start portraits with a realistic take: a version that reflects the model, in front of me, in the studio (or wherever we're making our pictures). After that, my mind may wander.

This is a reconsideration of the adjacent picture of Izébel Vivant, recolored as if, say, it were a newly discovered painting found hidden in the secret places of the cellar of one of the Old Masters.
