The UN is a corrupt cesspool that coddles dictators and steals money from starving people.

Are you sure you're not talking about the US? Look both the UN and US are guilty of your accusations as they are made up of people and profit, but the fact remains we (America) cannot continue to "sell" the concept of democracy and freedom while essentially ignoring the "voice" of 95% of the people of the WORLD! Do you not get that?
I will quote Albert Einstein here,
"If every citizen realizes that the only guarantee for security and peace in this atomic age is the constant development of a supra-national government, then he will do everything in his power to strengthen the United Nations. It seems to me that every reasonable and responsible citizen in the world must know where his choice lies...
IN ORDER to achieve the final aim - which is one world, and not two hostile worlds - such a partial world Government must never act as an alliance against the rest of the world. The only real step toward world government is world Government itself.
In a world Government the ideological differences between the various component parts are of no grave consequence.
The United Nations now and world Government eventually must serve one single goal the guarantee of the security, tranquility, and the welfare of all mankind."
Look, it all comes down to:
America vs most of the world
aka corporations vs "citizens (the people)"
aka bigbusiness vs "brothers"
aka owners vs "workers (labor)"
aka rich vs poor
aka the haves vs the have nots.
aka competition vs cooperation
The UN is an extraordinary and noble attempt at balancing or harmonizing this core dichotomy. It is at the route of our very existence.

When the UN controls the world then there will be no way to escape. At least when the communists controlled Eastern Europe you could still find a way to leave. If you don't like the US you could always try your luck someplace that is more like the UN model - say Libya or Iran or Zimbabwe. Good freakin' luck.
