[39/366]

Sometimes I'm not a huge fan of the photo-of-the-day, but I stop by this beam in the subway every night, and have never taken a photo of it. Tonight was the night, and because I couldn't decide which shot I liked better, I thought I'd post both.

It also took me until I put the photos on my computer, to realize that "Semaj" is "James" spelled backwards. And there's something really...hopeful?/comforting?/I'm-not-quite-sure-what-the-right-word-i s about that, but it hit home for some reason.

i love things like this. and it's good that you took a photo, because eventually the MTA will get around to painting over it.

It might be interesting to reshoot the bottom b&w photo from exactly the same perspective, but this time allow a figure to walk into the frame before ascending the stairs. Experiment with both 'in focus' and blurred figures. This may take some time as many people will veer away from that area if they notice you taking a photo. But being the crowded urban city that it is, I suspect that some New Yorkers will just ignore you.

Nice way to capture life... train in motion adds to it!

You'd actually be surprised how many people are simply in "their own world" in NYC, and not paying attention to a second of what's going on around them. Not to say there aren't those few that would get REALLY annoyed, but your suggestion sounds really cool, sooo...if the MTA doesn't paint of this soon, might just set up camp and try to find out... :)

If you do, let us know how it works out...I just posted an example of a shot I took on the street in Paris where I did this to good effect.

Good for you for photographing the "every day" with a new eye. The story you discovered makes the great photos even more appealing.
