Somebody's Getting Old ~ 10/52

Somebody's Getting Old ~ 10/52

Week #9: This picture of Brock was taken, specifically for the 52 weeks for Dogs Group. Brock's birthday is in March. This year he will be 6 years old. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that we brought home our little puppy, but look who's getting old.

Technically : Indoors, with a lamp in the background and over head indoor lighting. SB800 on camera flash, bounced, ISO bumped to 400.

Self Assessment: He sort of blends into the background, especially his paws on the arm of the chair. I'm not fond of his pose.

That Darn Bird! ~ 9/52

That Darn Bird! ~ 9/52

Week #9: This picture of Brock was taken, specifically for the 52 weeks for Dogs Group. The weather has been nasty here. Brock is only able to go outside through his doggie door into a covered pen and potty area. He sometimes just goes out there to sit on the ramp, which we call his stoop. Lately, there has been a particular bird who keeps coming around antagonizing Brock. It doesn't matter if its sunny or not, that bird is there driving him batty. Generally, it causes him to bark up a storm, recently though, because he knows barking is a punishable offense - usually resulting in some alone time in his kennel - he's been opting to grab his cuz ball, put it in his mouth and bite down really hard and quick, causing it to squeak loudly in short bursts. Its funny to watch him. I wish I could have taken one of that. Instead, I captured this one just as he's glancing upwards to see if the bird is around or not. Maybe I should bring out the BB gun?

Technically : Overcast and rainy day. Not much light. Used my SB800 flash unit pointed upwards, not towards Brock, for fill light. Picture was dramatically underexposed. I had a lot of noise to deal with. Used LR3 to help edit photo and correct exposure.

Self Assessment: I like the focus and seriousness in his expression. Any thoughts on shooting through a wired fence? It doesn't bother me much because I tend to focus on his eye. But what about you?

Nylabone Chew Toy ~ 8/52

Nylabone Chew Toy ~ 8/52

Week #8: This picture of Brock was taken, specifically for the 52 weeks for Dogs Group. This week we spent the time vacationing in Texas, visiting in-laws. The boys stayed home with my dad. I didn't have a lot of time to compose a really nice picture. Brock was prancing around, with his bone, just happy we were back. I asked him to lay down and I shot this photo.

Technically : I had the overhead light available and used an on camera SB800 flash. It was night time, so no natural light in this photo. I have my ISO at 500.

Self Assessment: I like his happy smile. My floors dirty and the picture isn't too exciting. I'm just glad I got this one in before the deadline for the week.

Begging for Carrots ~ 7/52

Begging for Carrots ~ 7/52

Week #7: This picture of Brock was taken, specifically for the 52 weeks for Dogs Group. This week I did an editorial type photo. Every time my dad takes a carrot out of the refrigerator the dogs just know he's going to share. They really aren't beggars, but you could never tell by this photo. I like how they each wait for their turn, they are very polite.

Technically : I had the overhead light available and used an on camera SB800 flash. Natural light is coming in from the window at Brock's left. I bumped the ISO to 500.

Self Assessment: I like his expression and how he's showing his teeth. I'm not happy with how boring the picture is. I'm so all out of ideas. I looked all morning for a scarf, we just don't have one! Don't like the background clutter either.

Waiting ~ 6/52

Waiting ~ 6/52

Week #5: This picture of Brock was taken, specifically for the 52 weeks for Dogs Group. It was a beautiful day outside. I tried to photograph Brock outdoors, but just couldn't get inspired. Instead, I took this one as I bribed him with treats.

Technically : I had the overhead light available and used an on camera SB800 flash. I also had natural light coming in on Brock's right hand side from a slider door.

Self Assessment: I like his expression and how he's showing his teeth. I'm not happy with how boring the picture is. I'm so all out of ideas. I looked all morning for a scarf, we just don't have one!
