Woke up at 4:15 yesterday morning to get an early start and snowshoe to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park to take a picture of Hallett Peak at sunrise. It was cold, windy and several times I lost the trail which was covered in couple of feet of snow forcing me to back track. In all the hike took me about 30 minutes longer than I expected and I missed the earliest break of the sun. However, it was still amazing!
All in all the trip was a bit expensive though. Broke my wide angle lens and got my first ticket in 12 years...if you are ever driving to Estes Park - make sure to go the speed limit in Lyons, Colorado especially right as you are leaving town. When you make the turn onto the main highway the speed limit remains 25 mph despite the cars that are flying up your behind. As soon as you accelerate to enter the flow of traffic you will see the cops lights. I read about the speed trap after the fact online but apparently it is well known to locals that they just prey on those heading up to RMNP for the weekend.
