Solar Panels on Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center

Photovoltaic panels on the visitor center at Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge(NWR)in Colorado. Alamosa NWR, with 11,169 acres of wetlands, sits in the Rio Grande River floodplain and is part of the San Luis Valley NWR Complex, along with Monte Vista NWR and Baca NWR. The refuge provides habitat for migratory birds, as well as year-round habitat for wildlife. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds were used install photovoltaic panels at all 3 refuges. Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge's existing photovoltaic system was retrofitted for the new visitor center, and the building was rewired to include a new system control panel. The system at Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge produces approximately 6.5KW of electricity on a sunny day.
