Christmas Fly

No idea what this little fella is probably a fruit fly. If you have an idea for an ID please let me know. I'll post more images of it as I make them. It's got interesting mottled wings and looks a lot like a moth from a distance.

I'm making use of my new piece of kit. A Christmas present for myself.

Here it is. A Canon macrophoto 20mm f/3.5
Used in this image wide open at f/3.5
Stacked from 61 images, lit with a Nikon SB24 diffused through a plastic white yoghurt pot
Magnification is 5.5:1 on the sensor

Thanks to Nikola Rahme to pointing out that this is obviously some kind of fruit fly. You can see the resemblance on this fruit fly I photographed earlier in the year.
      I feel a bit fruity

      Happy Christmas n all that.

It's old. It's what Canon used to make before the MPE turned up to the party, drank too much and smashed the street up. Police came, all neighbours were up. Nobody likes a drunken heavyweight.

That's a good way to spend Christmas, ( won't bother you with mother in law / ate to much boring stories etc) So it finally arrived, a not too shabby lens by the looks of it, had high hopes for this one. A very Merry Christmas to you Craig, and best of wishes for 2012, the year in which I hope to reach 500 macroshots, buy at least 5 more so-so lenses, and you'll most likely become a celebrity in extreme macro photography =)

Excellent result for the first test stack, Craig. And a nicely looking Christmas gift the fly below :)
I'm sure this fly belongs to the family of fruit flies (Tephritidae).

Thanks for the recommendation Andrea. Seems to be quite nice. I think things will improve when I upgrade to a Canon SLR this year.

Haha thanks Fred. I don't think celebrity and macro are words that go together :)

I've been shooting with a Canon 60mm Macro ƒ2.8 USM lens and haven't gotten nearly as stunning shots. I have much to learn! Amazing shot…just stunning.
