I'm losing perspective here, I can see the
top of the frame as water so then everything
flips on me..my-oh-my. the purples in the
foreground are amazing. Quite the moment you
got here. Envy.
As you can see, I um... dug out a few more of
my dune photos from the archives as they seem
to be quite the hit with the flickratti (and
the series is also my biggest seller as
prints as well).
I remember the moment really vividly...
waiting patiently for the sunrise & then
just as it began to peak behind me -- Bam it
hit this dune for maybe three good shots.
The weird bushy shadow in the middle was from
shrubs and such behind me and to the right.
The blues are all sky-stuff, with the dense
cloud cover deeper blue before it dissipates,
pretty quickly at that...
5 years ago I moved from the US to Australia.
In the state of New South Wales, we live in
a little tourist town called Anna Bay. These
dunes are across the street (and a short
walk) from where we live... the official name
is Stockton Bight Dunes, at Birubi Point
Beach... and I think the tourist trade to
this place will likely continue to rise if
the interest in these dune photos is any
indication (heheh). Thanks.
Thanks bleu celt & gstrader! I
appreciate all the kind comments, faves, etc.
It's odd to me that these shots generate so
much interest. Eventually, we hope to build
a house here, and yeah... in the plans are
some guest rooms & hopefully a partially
attached studio space too. gstrader, I'll
put you on the guest list. Might be a few
years, though. Thnx.
Wow, Feodel that's interesting! I'm going to
search for a photo of the Ukranian flag, not
sure if I'd recognize it. Thanks so much for
viewing & sharing your feedback. I
appreciate that...
Edited to add, here's what I found:
"The flag of Ukraine is a blue and
golden yellow horizontal bicolor with equal
stripes. The ratio of its height to its width
is 2:3.
This flag was officially adopted as the
national flag of Ukraine by the Supreme
Council (the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian
legislature) in 1992. The golden yellow
symbolizes fields of wheat and the blue
represents the sky, mountains, and streams of
Ukraine. The flag is based on early Ukrainian
flags. " Lovely!
Ace shot. Thanks for adding to the Give It
Your Best Shot pool. I'm having a bit of a
drive to get people to browse this really
great pool, and to give back to others in
terms of comments and faves etc. The good thing is, there aren't too many
photos to wade through....and guess what?
Most of them are pretty bloody good. Thanks, Nick.
Hey, thanks Trapac & borolad259-- I
promise to browse & comment more when I
have a bit of spare time to properly do so!
I'll join your drive, no worries. Cheers.
Can imagine it´s a good seller for you,
pulled me to it, being drawn by contrast,
textures in the smaller size. well done,
another world from me ;~} Though, would have had 1/3 of sky and more
forground, as the intense/saturation of blue
is sucking to much from the rest. The blue is
doing it´s job to promote the yellows, yet is
a touch too intensive.
Don't mind the considered comments,
majorbrighton, except that THIS is the photo
I wanted to make at that moment.
I have many, many dune photos & each one has its own
"personality" -- some that have
much more foreground/less sky, vice-versa,
others that have no sky at all...
Remember too, even at large sizes, you're
looking at a compressed digital rendition
(300ppi down to 72 ppi for web-viewing
jpg,instead of an ink-formulated print of a
much larger size) -- the character of the
photo as a large-sized print is a different
experience than a look-see on a smaller sized
light-emitting monitor. We are only
approximating that experience. (As you can
tell, I'd always prefer to show & look at
prints! Old School, but true.)
In any event, thanks for allowing the
thumbnail to pull you in & offering your
response.
oh, well, so now I find out what it looks
like where you live... that's pretty choice
atmoasphere, so close to where you live. hmm.
anna bay... let's see where that is now. reaLLy beautiful picture, you. that
particular form of cloud cover is one of my
favorites. i guess once the atmosphere
deteriorates we'll not be seeing this as
much, but i gues we'll be looking at alot of
tornados with lightning coming out of them...
i'm so unhappy with what people have done to
this planet, but now i'm like, well, bring it
on. i love stripes and this is a nice piece of
eyeballing fabric. the zebra stuff going on
in the lower quarter is fabulous. F*ck
thirds! hee hee. cool you sell prints.
Awwwwwww, you'll never find Anna Bay on a map
-- it's a teensy little town. The closest
big town you'd find on a map would likely be
Newcastle (which is about 45 minutes from
here). And yes, the greenhouse effect,
global warming, etc. have all been changing
the climate here (as is becoming more and
more obvious) as it is everywhere on the
planet. I hope we're not past the point of
no return, but even if we weren't... it's
unlikely that we'd have the intelligence to
simply learn better ways of living that would
undo what we've done.
Oh... thanks, no really -- it's important to
appreciate the natural world & sometimes
I think we take it for granted, and forget.
You know I always appreciate your taking the
time to consider my photos & give me your
reactions.
Thanks, Chiali... Feodel mentioned above
that this is, in his words: "Ukranian
symbols. Flag of my country has the same
proportions and same colors: blue and
yellow" -- Ever since then, I've seen
this photo like that!
