      Drums beating
      bellies swinging
      feet-tapping
      hands clapping,
      the taut young bodies,
      in the vibrant dresses,
      feathers and full make-up
      to complement,
      painted or tattooed bodies
      even in almost nude forms
      the carnival has begun;

      the laughter, the melodies
      the bands, the groups,
      all floating together
      the sweet scent
      of the cuisine
      and the intoxicating wine,
      doubles the awe of the fire-dance,
      their ecstatic screams
      the fun and the frolic
      the spirit of the ‘carnival’ is infectious.
