Home Market: 1941 in Worthington, Ohio

One of a series of Worthington businesses I photographed for the Worthington News in March 1941. Genial owner, Clyde Bachelor ,is pictured. The Home Market prices were a little higher than the chain stores across the street, but they carried top quality products. They had a butcher who cut meat to order. And they delivered. My grandmother, who didn't drive, had all her groceries delivered

I invite viewers to look at my collection of old Worthington photos:

When I was very small I can remember my mother telephoning orders to "Swanson Waller's Grocery" which was very similar to this. His business closed in the early '50's after A&P and Colonial Store opened in our town.

Great shot Don! I wish we had those prices these days... Do you remember where in Worthington this grocery was located?

Wonderful photograph. In my hometown, even into the sixties, there were several of small grocery stores like this one that still survived and served the community.

This is a wonderful classic shot! My Dad used to own a grocery store in Worthington - McKenzie's Fine Foods. It is called the Hill's Market now.
