well the thumbnail cought my eyes but looking
at the big size the black spot on the top
middle starting to bother me. it pushes the overall greenish feeling
looked very "saveable" from the
small size. . Large, it's too saturated and too
"sharpened" in software for my
taste. . -voted as "deleteme" (from Deleteme! group)
Interesting. If you could've shortened the
shutter speed to get that big ol' ant to stop
wriggling, it would be better. Looks to
sharpened...to compensate?
I would love to save this. I have seen very
few ant macros that I like, and this one is
pretty good. My main problem is the
saturation. It makes it that little bit hard
to look at. Otherwise a great picture.
It's definately a question of taste then. I
like insects as they are. So unless you
present me with sometihng that is completely
insane, I'm going to thin that all the
post-processing is just detracting from the
picture.
Personally, there is too much green and
black. I wish you could have gotten a
different background to make the ants stand
out more. Detail and sharpness is excellent.
OK I am not a fan of macros, but this one I
like, It is an aggressive compo with a sort
of B-movie "attack of the giant ants
feeling". The colours the spikes, the
blown up contrast all make this nature shot
pleasantly unnatural to me.
I loved this one, when I saw it in another
group. I faved it then; and would fave it
now, also. Very detailed. Excellent macro.
Viewed on large I see NO blownout areas. All
details are crystal clear on my screen. I
really like the background colors. They add
to the photo; they don't take away from it at
all......in my opinion. The focal point goes
strictly to the ants themselves. My, aren't
they workers? Would be nice if us humans
worked that hard.......LOL

The saturation and the sharpening have their reason: I wanted a kind of SciFi feel. It has to be (slightly) unreal to work for me.

could have used a faster shutter speed. nature photography demands some of the most rigorous technique.
