Fillmore Snow (11)

I spent the afternoon today out at Fillmore Street between Broadway and Union St. in San Francisco watching some of the top skiers and snowboarders including Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley do jumps down off one of the steepest streets in San Francisco. The event was somewhat controversial in the City and almost didn't happen but in the end it was a great opportunity to see what is certainly a first and perhaps last historic ski jump event in San Francisco. For my Flickr set of the entire event click here. The San Francisco Chronicle covers the event here. Big Empty has an even better Flickr set than mine here.

great shot. disconcerting seeing this with the bay in the background.

i tried to stay away. what a perfect day for it. was it mobbed? the traffic was backed up to the toll booth when i headed in to the city today at around noon. i took an alternate route.

  6. Thomas Hawk (81 months ago | reply)

It was actually not as mobbed as I would have expected. I wasn't even planning on going but my brother dragged me out. Glad I went. Some unique perspectives on SF.

Perfect day? Yeah if you like heat. I much prefer the rain and the reflections that make for the most beautiful photographs of all. But then again, I'm whacked.

You guys surely know how to throw a party! I know this section of Fillmore well (have parked on its steepest portions numerous times and slogged up the hill as well). Brilliant air shot.

    wow. fantastic!!
i'm curious as to why the event nearly didn't take place????

Some of the Pacific Heights neighbors were not thrilled about it. Also one woman in particular was getting married right near there that day and was really quite upset as she thought it would ruin her wedding.

Great capture. This photogenic event was much harder to capture then expected, and you did a fine job with this shot.

I'm in love with everything pink. I can't get my eyes off his pants.

That said, I think the rest of the colors are a bit blend. And I don't really like the blurry nature background.

    But I'm still saying

    to those pants.

Hell Yeah TH this is a keeper. Very unique seeing a Snow boarder with a sail boat in the background. Beautiful action shot.

Won't vote cause I like it but I feel like the top (coast) should have been cropped: it's doesn't add anything and it's distracting. Must have been cool to watch !

great moment and job capturing it. Just doesn't do anything for me. I would watch more tv or read an extreme magazine if I wanted to see shots like this (which I don't).

I like this - the figure is a *tad* bit muddied by the busy colors behind him, but not enough to destroy a great capture in a surprising place

this kind of capture is difficult to get, people! you have to stand in the right place, on the right day, with the right camera, it has to be on the right setting, yada yada yada. I think it's funny to hear people say things like the guy should be against the water not the buildings, as if there was control over that. the dof could have been better-- the buildings would look better if they were more blury-- but that's my only critique.

    save10

  39. Professional Recreationalist (81 months ago | reply)

Nice capture, too bad the perspective didn't have him clear of the buildings since he blends a little too much. Nice shot though.

Wow! Really nice pic! Specially because it isn't blurry! That guy must've had jumped really high to overpass the buildings, even though they look shorter because they are much more far.
