    San Francisco cable cars are everything they're cracked up to be. Everyone should ride one at least once in their life, preferably standing on the running board and hanging on while going around a curve and surrounded by traffic. Nothing like it!

    Don't pay $5 one way to ride the cable cars. There's 2 lines to see so you'll end up spending $20 for both. Get a 1,3,7 or 30 day MUNI pass for UNLIMITED rides on cable cars, buses, underground trolleys, etc. Buy at Powell cable car shack.     Good suggestion re: tourist passes. Many big cities offer them (thinking especially of a visit to Boston a few years back) and they're great. If the system has good frequency and is user-friendly, it's the only way to go.

    I wouldn't crop out the sky and the top of the hill. You lose all sense of scale without them.
