Back on the Grid

Back on the Grid

Back on the hiking grid this weekend, as my ankle is feeling mostly all better now. Found this 77 ft. high falls on Marble Creek east of Redding. No trails, not hard to get to, but lots of poison oak. Awesome location, I'll definitely return here someday when the waterfall is flowing strong, but even at low flow it is a beauty.

Bird

Bird

Cattle Egret at Salton Sea Natl Wildlife Refuge. I did not get out hiking this past weekend. It has been just too dry. Maybe this weekend I'll get out. We made a stop at Salton Sea on our trip down to Disneyland. Saw lots of birds.

Joshua Tree Sunset

Joshua Tree Sunset

On the way down to Disneyland, we stopped off at Joshua Tree National Park for a couple days. I thought the desert was a very interesting place, we had never been there before. though I was hoping to see more wildlife. This was the only good photo I got from Joshua Tree, on the first evening we were there. Taken from the Indian Cove area.

Surprise!

Surprise!

Hey Folks! We just got back from a family vacation to Disneyland, in case you missed me. ;-)

I had not planned to see any waterfalls down in SoCal, as it has been bone dry this winter. But a surprise rain happened when we were there, and it was enough to get the waterfalls down there trickling again. I went out the morning after the rain, and found this little beauty, 40 ft. high Sturtevant Falls. It was not flowing great, but it is still a pretty waterfall. I'll try to catch up with you all later this week.

The Bear

The Bear

Yesterday afternoon I took a short trip into the North Feather River Canyon on Hwy 70 near Oroville. It is a short and easy hike up to this one, Bear Ranch Creek Falls (81 ft. high), even easy enough for me and my bum ankle. The ankle is actually a bit better now and I can hike again, as long as it is not anything too difficult.
