For this series of work I wanted to explore different locations around the UAE and to see the relationship of people to their surroundings. Next to the man we see an old rusted winch that draws in the boats. Behind him on the right of the photographs the mountains are natural, but behind him is concrete and rock, that is all man made, but at first glance we think that it’s a part of the mountain range. The breaking point between the natural and the manmade is the man in the image visually separating the 2 very subtly.

I came across this site as I was traveling around the UAE taking photographs for a photomontage for an upcoming show. Its in an abandoned area I came across by chance, it use to have a river running through it; and this plantation was planted because of that river. After a few years the river dried up and the farmer wasn’t able to continue to water his crop; he simply abandoned the palm trees resulting in the palm trees dying where they stood.

I was invited to show my works at the Venice Biennale this year at the UAE Pavilion. Here is a glimpse of the tote bag with my artwork on it, catalog, press pack, art map and postcard with my artwork as well. :)
