If we mowed often enough, we'd be able to use the motor-less push mower. But what usually happens is that mowing the lawn falls pretty low on the priority list, so we end up using my parents' gas mower a handful of times over the grass-growing season when the grass gets to be too much to handle with the push mower (push mower note: whenever we use it, Bisnonno tells us that when he worked for a landscaper, a push mower was all they were allowed to use because it cuts the grass instead of tearing it the way a gas-powered mower does).

D has roto-tilled and re-seeded and weeded and made sweet love to our lawn over the past few years. He bought a special kind of lawn seed that is supposed to not need any watering, and that grows slowly so that it doesn't need to be cut as often. And when it does grow long, it bows over so that it doesn't get tall, and it actually looks really pretty, like wind-blown grasses that I've seen at the beach.

Despite all the TLC to get rid of everything that isn't the pretty grass, there are still plenty of "weeds." They don't bother me, though, because I actually like to look out at the lawn and see dots of purple violets, bright yellow dandelions, and white clovers - so I'm in no rush to get the mowing done.

In the past couple weeks, we've discovered another weed - a vine that has white flowers on it that open in the daylight sun and then close in the evening. I've already told D that I don't want him to mow in front of the swingset because I find the expanse of white blooms to be really sweet to see in our yard.

This week has been so hot & dry that a lot of our plants/weeds are looking pretty pissed about our refusal to grow up into responsible, sprinkler-running adults (as in "running the sprinklers to keep the lawn/plans alive," not "using the sprinklers to run through," because I do plenty of the latter).

But while the clover have given up on us, the white flowers in front of the swingset are going strong, so since R had me up early this morning, I took the chance to go get a pic of them.

Thanks! I'm still learning when it comes to DOF & my 35mm, but it worked out well for this shot :)
