- The keyboard surround, cracked in 2 places.
- CD-Rom and Hard drive
- Keyboard, complete with loose 4 key
- Screwdriver box, for holding screws. Many, many small black screws.
- Bizzarely, the backplane is the only bit of the machine which appears to have survived in tact.
- The case had cracked here, just above the audio in / out sockets
- The case had cracked in several places around the pcmcia / harddrive sockets.
- The screw that holds the bottom of the screen casing together no longer does that...
- The screw that's meant to hold the screen casing together now screws into thin air.
Undead Dell
My Dell laptop, now a venerable 9 or 10 years old has continued it's slow disintegration. Connectors now are loose, the case has cracked many places and the screen is flickery like some kind of lightning bug. It's been apart several times, first with Lauren who managed to revive it from the dead using several other Dell laptops, and who then used it for a long time; and twice with me, once to fix the flickering screen and the cracked back of the screen casing which meant it was flopping around like a wet fish (it has a big chunk of metal attached to the back of it now) and this time to try and restore some strength to the case which had cracked in enough places that it bent when you picked it up.
