      The original idea comes from a modern quilts book by Ringle/Kerr. I didn't sew the book strips as suggested though....I used accuquilt strip cutters and trimmed when necessary for more varieties of sizes.

      I have GOT to make one of these for my mom (also a retired school librarian who now works in a bookstore!). Yours is fabulous. I am sure the recipient will be blown away by this gift.

      Each end of a coloured strip was sewn to a white strip of the same width. Once the appropriate height was established, the white (or a small bit of color) was trimmed off. Each 'book' was then sewn to it's neighbour. The leaning books took more white, on both sides and above and below the book. The white was then trimmed on angles to make the book 'lean'. Once a row of books was complete and trimmed to be straight, the thin brown bookshelf was sewn to the bottom.

      I made this for my daughter who is a librarian and it is adorable. I used scrap fabric from other projects and it was fun to come up with my own color scheme with books different widths and sizes. Love it!
