Sunset on the Levels

    This is the time of day when 'Elfae' or 'Hedge Hippies' can be spotted on the moors, normally in the last few minutes just before the Sun sets... Often seen around the edge of small towns and villages rooting through bins, much like foxes, for morsels of food, cakes and meat pie being a firm favorite...Many Elfae or Hedge Hippies have developed specialist diets, some living on nuts and berries, others have turned insectivorous, the latter relying on captive insects to survive through extremely cold winters.

    I caught one on film back in August, not a very good shot I'm afraid as the light was very poor, but at least you can see what they look like....

    Me'nthedogs also managed to capture one on film back in August, a month when they seem to be particularly active, at the Ryewater Butterfly farm...

      I have never heard either of those terms, I am a Hippy and grub around in hedges so can I put that posh label on me? "Elfae" nice I am often known as a "Wicken"
