      possible new site for my church, I get bogged down at this point in the process, I dont really like the wood grain background, any suggestions would be great

      the center rectangle would be looping flash, clickable, reflecting current events etc

      Tone down the woodgrain to a whiter version. Get rid of all the dropshadows on the fonts. Try another main font for the site instead of picking just good ol' Myriad. Rounded corners... maybe a little bit more subtle. Make white NOT the base color of the background around the news items. Hope this helps.

      I agree with tsooj about the font comments and the white base color.

      If you dont like the wood background I would ditch it and go with a more clean approach to design... but if you like the idea that the site has a little texture and personality I would push the "home made" concept and really work flushing out the concept. For instance... the "I'm new to Skyline" maybe make it a post it note with a hand written font.

      A couple other suggestions would be to ditch the double colons as dividers in the nav as well as the underlines. I might make the logo smaller so you can make the nav font larger and possibly ditch the "home" button and use the logo to return home.

      I'm not a huge fan of the black borders around the images... if going with the home made look... maybe they could be photos with photo corners or something.
