Last week, Rick Young and I made our annual trip to attend the 2012 WPPI Event at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas. I thoroughly enjoy the trade show; learning about new products & techniques, meeting new people & seeing familiar faces of leaders in photography and my favorite… the photo-walks hosted by Mark Wallace. Here is a sunrise image from my room at the MGM, I was shooting north (up Las Vegas Boulevard) to capture the morning light illuminating MGM Signature Towers, a sliver of the Westgate building, the Westin and off in the distance the Stratosphere.

Outdoors Gille

As the sun slowly descended below the horizon, we noticed a dimly lit aircraft tail ascending towards the sky. Somewhat of an eerie sight since we were the only two people standing in a rather desolate desert. It reminded me of the 1965 film, “The Flight of the Phoenix”… how ironic to discover this on “The Drive to Phoenix”.

Returning from WPPI in Las Vegas, Rick Young and I took a slight detour on the way home to capture some images and ran across this eclectic little town... discovered a 1950's Chevy 3800 truck nestled in a perfect setting.

What a great opportunity… I received a call from my good friend, Roger Marble about helping him shoot firework images at the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale. Roger’s family is good friends with the host so we were able to speak with the event planner; fireworks operator and the resort allowed us access to the golf course. We had an absolute blast!!!
