The SFU Community Trust wishes to create a facility for 3- to 5-year-olds that targets the highest standards of green design and integrates the most current ideologies of creative childcare. The new Centre is targeting the “Living Building Challenge” accreditation. This aggressive certification process requires that the building produce its own energy, and that it collect and recycle all of its water.

This project is for eight new Labour Delivery Recovery Antepartum (LDRP) rooms, support service area upgrades including a common family room, and a new doctor sleep room. The Authority’s desire was to implement a contemporary residential atmosphere Family-Centered Care Maternity facility allowing for family involvement during the birthing process. The LDRP room layout accommodates a designated family area and in-room overnight sleeping accommodations for partners or family members. Throughout the schematic and design development stages, HCMA worked closely with the User Group members, including construction of a full-scale mock-up, to incorporate functional and procedural desires.
