These two pictures --- before & after ---
are haunting! Judging by the car, this must
have been Vietnam or Korea at the earliest.
This picture so full of hope and goodness,
and then -- what could have happened that
such a lovely rural home could have been
abandoned to such a fate? Surely the history
here could be uncovered by a visit to a
county courthouse since such things are
public record.
Thanks! Those are great thoughts. The man in
the photo I believe is alive but elderly and
lives in a nearby town. He would also be the
owner of the house. His mother lived there
last but passed away long ago. It's a
magnificent house and should not have
received that fate.Also...the uniform shown
is upstairs in a box...
So many mixed emotions and questions go
through me when I view your photostream. These are people who lived full lives based
on the photos left behind... so sad...
it is sad to think of all these special
keepsakes that linger long after the
occupants moved on to make another home
(presumably), but also a gentle reminder that
we can't take the 'stuff' with us.. ya know?
That you found this very same uniform is
chilling. Wow. So glad you are showing so
much care and respect to the former owners.
So many untold stories. Now I'm just
impatiently waiting for Trash Lolita to work
her magic....
I feel it too. Trying to keep them alive by
posting here. Thanks. Well said Dave. will some abandonment
searcher be combing through are stuff well
down the road? Chilling to think about it! Thanks so much. Trying to do this with
respect as I sort through their history.
Agreed on Trash Lolita! Thanks sir!
As I was working on the Gif, the garage was
driving me nuts, just could not get it to
line up, as Whitney pointed out, the roof is
different. I wonder if it's the same
building, or if they built a later garage a
little further from the house?
....kinda doubtful that they'd build a new
garage further from the house...then you'd
have to make a new driveway too?...I'm
thinking maybe the hip roof got damaged or
they wanted some storage and switched roof
types...more than likely the difference in
distance is probably focal length of the lens
which according to the exif data is 18mm on
Ace's shot...very wide...making the distance
seem greater...the old one is probably a set
lens at 50mm.
fantastic find and wonderful photo,
definitely make you wonder about the story of
the house and the people in it.
this is one of the most eerie ones you've
done, something about watching the bushes
grow and creep and engulf the house....and it
does look like a different garage (or just
same one with new roof), but in the gif it
looks like its getting bigger and moving
toward the house....awesomely creepy, wow
I noticed this also. I get the feeling that
there are some traces of the old driveway on
the ground in the later photo. Focal camera
lens settings sound like the most logical
answer. I still truly wish someone could find out
more or even attmpt to find and contact the
owner. Personally, I have traced the
background of several places where I've
lived, here in Texas and also in Ohio -- and
have always been very successful. There are many other photos of this house
on the Net from different sides and angles
which might help solve some of the mysteries.
Aces & Eights, didn't you take some of
those or have others been there also?
MYSTERY SOLVED! Look art the full sized new shot, and you can
see the old hip roof garage tucked behind the
foliage between the house and the NEWER
garage...should look closer before I engage
my mouth....lol
Thanks Whitney, I saw MJ's comment and can't
believe we didn't see it. The focal length
issue is a valid point, but usually I can
somewhat compensate for that. But anyway,
here it is reworked, syncs much better now.
