"Spray Falls" Michigan's Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Spray Falls is one of several waterfalls in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The 70' waterfall plunges over the cliffs at Pictured Rocks and lands in Lake Superior. It took my wife and I about three hours to hike to this lookout of the falls , we stopped a couple of times for a drink and to take other photos.

I was going to post one of Spray Falls tonight. But I was there on Tuesday when it was 45F and completely overcast, so no wonderful colours like this shot! But thanks for urging me to make the trek to see this falls!

Awesome Shot. I was just looking at this hike last night in my trail books and then I see this thumbnail tonight. I hope the water is still flowing in August.

Great shot, John! This really shows the sheer magnitude and power of the Lake Superior shoreline--I've not seen that falls in real life, only in pictures, but having seen the Superior shoreline many times, I have the idea of scale and the raw power in mind.

    This looks great..
I bet a boat ride to the base, and some long exposures from the rocks during the golden hour would look great too :)

  27. Michigan Nut (23 months ago | reply)

Thanks , I have given that some thought Andrew. Someday maybe I will do that , it would take some careful planning .

Terrific job of pursuing a photo shot. Your lucky to be married to someone who will share your passion for photography. Did you take a tripod with you?

  32. Michigan Nut (23 months ago | reply)

Thanks! The first time my wife and I hiked to spray falls was over 30 years ago! I have been photographing this area for as many years . No tripod this time next time we plan to pack in and stay a few nights, will take one then. It is amazing how well VR works on Nikon lenses.
