One would have thought that the view would slow down anyone...but along the treacherous road to Pangong, accidents are common....that is why the BRO puts up these milestones as reminders. Sometimes witty - sometimes stark. (Though the Delhi Police should do the same)

A puff of while floats over the majestic Pangong Lake. Finding yourself in a state of solitude is not so tough in Ladakh.

It bears a striking resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, but this is the Thikse Gompa (or Monastery) located on top of a hill, approximately 19 kilometers east of Leh. The monastery belongs to the Yellow Hat (Gelugpa) sect of Tibetan Buddhists and is the largest Gompa in central Ladakh.

It is a 12-story complex and houses many items of Buddhist art such as stupas, statues, thangkas, wall paintings and swords. But the prayer hall at the top is amazing, total silence, no wonder monks flock here to attain enlightenment.

If Nature ever made a natural mirror then it would have to be still waters of the Pangong Lake. When the wind abates at this high altitude lake and the ripples settle down, you can see the mountains and the skies reflected in high definition clarity. I just wish our government has the clarity enough to preserve this marvel of nature.
