I spent most of the month of July inside the back rooms of this Hopkinsville, Kentucky courthouse, researching my family tree. Most of my hours were consumed by volumes of old indexes of court documents and wills and such. I learned how to read that kind of writing you see on the Declaration of Independence - an art form in and of itself.
The sign (below in comments) is posted just outside the courthouse building. The shelves of books (below) are the books I spent so many hours going over. The third image below is a copy of a document dated 1854, which was signed by Alexander Cotton, my great, great, great grandfather. Just touching those words on the page gave me goosebumps.
I like to think that Alexander Cotton was smiling down on me when I found him.
It's good to be back. Happy Sliding this Sunday!
