Under the Dock

Under the Dock

Another of our visitors at the cabin. He is looking toward the cabin from under the dock, checking out how much birdseed the birds have spilled out of the feeders. A night-time foray is in the plans! Texture by Mat texturonline.

Black-faced Suffolk Sheep

Black-faced Suffolk Sheep

These sheep are residents at Pond Hill Farm, north of Harbor Springs, Michigan. The farm has cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, a farm stand with all manner of pesticide and herbicide free produce. They also have a “Squash Rocket”, two tall poles with a slingshot strung between them. You put a squash in the slingshot, step backwards and pull it as taunt as you can, then let ‘er go and launch the squash into the field. SPLAT! Great fun! Texture by skeletalmess.

American Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

American Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

These fearless and feisty little squirrels are fun to have around, but can be a bit hard on birdfeeders, suet cakes, etc. with their hyperactive behavior of chewing up everything, whether it’s edible or not. When I shoo them off the deck, they shoot up the nearest tree, balance on a skinny branch and proceed to berate me for my rudeness. Their chirping, chirring and scolding practically vibrates them right off their perch! Texture by Boccacino.

Pomegranate Portrayed

Pomegranate Portrayed

My first attempt at a still life. I thought a still life would be easier than getting a good picture of wildlife. With wildlife you have no control, only hope that the shutter will catch just that perfect moment. With a still life you can take your time, arrange things just the way you want them. However. . . I couldn’t stop fiddling with this arrangement. The tendrils wouldn’t stay put or drape the right way, the rose hips would roll and point the wrong direction, the gourds might look better angled just a bit differently . . . ARRGH! Finally, I just had to leave it alone and take the picture! Hmmm . . . . I wonder if there are any birds on the birdfeeder. . . . Texture by skeletalmess.
