Mt. Brautigan

Mt. Brautigan

All of the photographs of mountains I took in Arizona that I like were taken past my brother in law's head out of a moving car. They are blurry, emotional, and like a couple of scrambled eggs in the morning, they just feel right to me. I am no Ansel Adams and I don't wish to be. I am far more melodramatic, even if I love nature just as much.

I also love literature and I dream of climbing to the top of a mountain some day, far from the maddening crowd, and reading until starving to death. That would be a good way to end it.

Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen

In honor of Leonard Cohen's new album, Old Ideas, here's another photo of him I hadn't put up yet. The photo has driven me crazy for sometime because of the hat shadow but in a way, it makes him look like a hyper-literate supervillain who works for the 1930s newspapers during the day (and flies by night). Not to say that Leonard is anyone's villain, definitely not mine.

As to the actual album, I like how stripped down it is quite a bit...no sax or synth and Leonard's vocals are a focal point and boy I feel like he can still charm a girl. There are some back up female vocalists too (AKA competition) but we'll overlook that because we can always hear Leonard over their commotion ;)

No, really, their voices are ok...some may even say lovely.

The Book of Disquietude

The Book of Disquietude

Looking across the snowcapped mountains overhead the American SW I thought about how the Earth's cracks looked like magnified dendrites as if it was the brain control center of our deep synaptic secrets.

It is difficult to live on this Earth and it is difficult to be a human being when the mountains know all of our secrets before we even think them and the lakes carry our thoughts from us to strangers.

And yes, this landscape is also how I feel, whether I'm on a way to a holiday or escaping just that.

Pessoa's The Book of Disquietude is perhaps the most brilliant thing I've ever read...and I haven't even read all of it yet. I savor it. I open to random passages. Think of a literary truffle, as deep and as chocolatey and as honest as anything you can imagine. Such is Pessoa and The Book of Disquietude.

Grouplove

This is a band I fell in love with through photos first (Via Dennis Stempher: www.flickr.com/photos/dennisstempher/sets/721576272095551... ) then got into their music. I think their songs are pretty fun but their live performance is even better.
