Court of the Patriarchs
I really would've liked to have seen the Court of the Patriarchs in all it's glory. On the positive side, I think I got a rather unique view of this iconic location. This photograph is a blend of 3 images for focus. It should only take two images, but I was a little sloppy with my foreground focusing.

Red Dawn Rising
We were extremely fortunate to have an amazingly beautiful morning for our first trip to Horseshoe Bend. The sun was rising directly behind us and illuminated the clouds on the horizon and gradually began to light up the Bend. Really beautiful. I wasn't quite sure how I would fare at Horseshoe since I am not a fan of heights at all. I remember seeing David's video clip and feeling queasy. You don't often see a vertical composition here, but I was attracted to the foreground. (To give you a sense of perspective, the white splotches on the shore of the river below are a campsite with several boats).

The Watchman... at Noon?!
A familiar composition but taken at a rather unusual time. The masses come out at sunset to photograph the Watchman in Zion National Park, but we photographed this around midday. Yupper, had the bridge to ourselves. Despite the lack of interesting light, we stopped for several reasons; (1) the clouds breaking up over the summit of the Watchman (2) interesting clouds in the rest of the sky (3) the winter wonderland look off in the distance.

Old Paria
Funny story. After a full day in Page, Mr. Baker and I headed to the Paria area in southern Utah for a sunset shoot. This is a really cool place! After spending the morning in the tourist factory that is Antelope Canyon (doesn't matter which one, Lower or Upper, they're both ridiculous) it was refreshing to have this entire place to ourselves! We began shooting and about the time the sun is setting I realize I haven't seen Adam in quite a while. It's going get dark soon so I should probably find him. I walked up and down the dirt road, shouting his name for a good 30 minutes and heard or saw nothing. Now I'm getting worried. What if he broke his leg and is lying in a ravine fending off ill-tempered prarie dogs?! The other dilemma was that the sky was exploding with color! By far this was the best sunset conditions we had on our entire trip. So what do do? Save my friend or get some of this amazing light? Well, I sort of compromised. I still was diligently searching for Adam but I also snapped off a few quick pictures as well. This is the best of the bunch. I eventually found Adam and we lived to shoot another day.

My Three Sons
My wife and I welcomed our third son into the world last week. So I may not be quite as active posting on Flickr for a little while!
