Jantar Mantar 1724-58
Classical instruments of astronomy, for readings of altitude and
inclination, sundials etc., form a bright red park of amazingly
excentric follies.
Built for the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II (who had similar structures
made in Jaipur and several other cities), the observatorium appears
remarkably modern, a precursor of many later land-art pieces - and
reminiscent of the intricate geometry of an Escher drawing.
