FYR Macedonia's self-employment programme encourages and supports unemployed people who have good entrepreneurial skills and business ideas, and helps them open their own businesses or improve their skills to increase their competitiveness in the marketplace.
More than 4,000 people started their own business or found secure jobs since the programme was introduced in 2007. Seventy per cent of the companies set up by the self-employment programme have managed to survive and prosper.
