Apparently my enthusiasm about the National Park 'The Bavarian Forest' was catching, because when I showed Dennis Rademaker the pictures, he immediately suggested to jump in the car and go, before the snow would melt. As I think spontaneous ideas are often the best; so we did!
Last friday we drove the 850km down the South of Germany but our hopes went down the drain when, during 800km, it was still sunny and there wasn’t a snowflake in sight! It was only when we left the highway, that the ground turned white and at the same time, it gently started snowing.
We spent 3 days in the area; the first day started with -8 degrees and
heavy snow. The 8km hike through the park – I swear that every path
went Uphill!! - with 20kg of gear on my back, was one of the heaviest
I ever did, but so worth it!
The second and third day were even colder, with -13,5 degrees C on Monday, but I think I speak for the both of us, when I say that we enjoyed every minute. (well, maybe save the hour that we were running up and down a hill, just to get the blood running through our toes again :-) And I didn't even loose weight! Grrr... )
This wolf’s grimace was not one of aggression, but actually the opposite. He was threatened by the dominant Alpha male and by baring his teeth, crouching down with his tale between his legs, he begged for mercy…
