The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced, in the presence of President Michel Martelly, that Canada will contribute $19.9 million to the Housing Action Project to resettle approximately 20,000 displaced persons currently residing in the Champ de Mars tent camp. This announcement was made on the eve of the second anniversary of the earthquake, demonstrating Canada’s long-term commitment to making a difference in the lives of Haitians.

Minister Oda, accompanied by Emmett Fitzgerald, Camps Project Coordinator for the International Organization for Migration, also saw first-hand Place Boyer, where displaced persons lived before they were resettled in surrounding neighbourhoods. Place Boyer has been restored as a community park where children can play.

L'honorable Beverley J. Oda, ministre de la Coopération internationale, a annoncé, en présence du président Michel Martelly, que le Canada versera 19,9 millions de dollars pour le Projet Action Logement afin de réinstaller environ 20 000 personnes déplacées résidant actuellement dans le camp de tentes à la place Champ de Mars. Cette annonce a été faite à la veille du deuxième anniversaire du séisme, démontrant l’engagement à long terme du Canada à faire une différence dans la vie des Haïtiens.

La ministre Oda, accompagnée d’Emmett Fitzgerald, coordonnateur de projet dans les camps pour l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations, a également visité la Place Boyer où des personnes déplacées ont vécu avant qu’elles soient été réinstallées dans les quartiers environnants. La Place Boyer a été restaurée à son état de parc communautaire où les enfants peuvent s’amuser.

Minister Oda met with students at the Anne Marie Javouhey Public Elementary School in Pétionville. Through the School Feeding Program implemented by the World Food Programme, the Canadian International Development Agency ensures that students attending this school receive a daily meal consisting of rice and beans. CIDA’s contribution to the World Food Programme in Haiti ensures that 400,000 schoolchildren receive a nutritious meal every day.

La ministre Oda a rencontré des étudiants à l’école primaire publique Anne-Marie Javouhey à Pétionville. Grâce au Programme d'alimentation scolaire mis en œuvre par le Programme alimentaire mondial, l'Agence canadienne de développement international veille à ce que les étudiants qui fréquentent cette école reçoivent un repas quotidien composé de riz et de haricots. La contribution de l'ACDI au Programme alimentaire mondial en Haïti permet à 400 000 écoliers de recevoir un repas nutritif tous les jours.

The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced on October 28, 2011, Canada’s support to assist earthquake relief efforts in eastern Turkey. Through the Canadian Red Cross Society, CIDA is providing 500 winterized tents from its emergency relief supplies stockpile to the Turkish Red Crescent Society. The tents will ensure urgently needed emergency shelter for 500 families (2,500 people).

Le 28 octobre 2011, l’honorable Beverley J. Oda, ministre de la Coopération internationale, a annoncé que le Canada appuierait les secours apportés aux sinistrés du séisme qui a frappé l’Est de la Turquie. Par l’entremise de la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge, l’ACDI fournit 500 tentes adaptées aux conditions hivernales à la Société du Croissant-Rouge turc. Ces articles proviennent de la réserve de fournitures d’urgence de l’Agence. Ainsi, 500 familles dans le besoin (environ 2 500 personnes) pourront bénéficier d’un abri d’urgence.
