Tawny Owl Chick

    Newer Older

David and I were walking in a forest close to home with the intention of photographing bluebells. I then noticed a tawny owl sitting in a tree then flew off at the sight of us. As we got closer to the tree an object caught my eye on the ground. Here was this little chick standing in the middle of the forest it took one look at me and I just froze as I could not believe what I was seeing, I immediately retreated to allow it to get cover at the bottom of a tree. I thought this little guy must have fallen out of the nest and will not see it through the night. So went back next day and here he was looking quite content with food left by it's parents. Glad the story had a happy ending!

Brilliant Margaret. Been hunting high and low of a little ball of fluff, but just managed to track down the parents.

Wow, I'm sure he did fall out of the nest. I hope it can survive on the ground?

Superb shot and story Margaret. You're lucky the parent didn't go for you - I've seen the results of someone being hit by an owl defending it's chicks in woodland. They didn't see or hear the bird coming until it hit them on the side of the head, leaving some nasty gashes.
