I've just been (Jan 24th 2012) onto the Guardian 'Been There' competition website after remembering I had entered the November 2011 competition with the above picture. The theme was solitude so I thought it worked well. Unfortunately I didn't win but it was shortlisted.

A lone fisherman stands on his stilt facing out to sea as an early evening storm came in.

There appeared to be two types of stilt fishermen in Sri Lanka. The more common ones had stilts close to shore and fished facing the sand and without bait by moving their rods in the water. The guy in this picture was further out to sea and faced out towards the ocean. He also appeared to use a different technique. Rumour had it that he was after a different type of fish (bigger ones) than the guys closer to shore!

Keeping up my recent fondness for shooting in the light...

Taken in Delamere Forest, Cheshire by shooting into a low afternoon winter sun. As it was such a nice day there were lots of families out for a walk and people mountain biking on the trails. If it wasn't for my own kids being a nightmare it would have been a very pleasant day!

Because I process my images on my laptop at home they always look different on my work monitor. This for example is too green! However it is not as green as the one I was going to upload and had originally preferred! I think I need to calibrate!!!!

A nice sunny day and so I decided to take my 2 year old twins to Delamere Forest in Cheshire! What a nightmare. 2 hours of non stop screaming (and I got lost - not sure how as I've been several times before with no issues!). However they did fall asleep for 10 minutes so I managed to get a few pics.
