One Week Old

A week ago today Anders was born.

His due date was 3.15.11, so my parents came over and brought dinner to celebrate the due date. I was at the doctor's just a couple days before. And nothing was happening. So I was expecting to have this baby overdue just like #1. I was prepared. Not thrilled about it, but mentally ready. That night after dinner I was really tired. So I went to bed early- 9:30- but couldn't sleep. I kept having to get up and go to the bathroom. Nothing unusual there, but after about an hour of doing this every fifteen minutes I started to feel really crampy.

We decided to go to the hospital around 12:30am, and yep, I was in labor at 5cm dilated. I tried to go all-natural until about 6 cm (2:30am) and just couldn't take the intensity of the full body contractions so I got an epidural. Amazing relief. Things slowed down and we could actually rest and relax. Then at 6:30am the nurse came in and said your going to have a baby! We're just going to wait for the doctor. So at 7am the doctor came in and she said this is going to be fast and she was right. At 7:12am, Tom yelled out "It's a boy!" And you came into our lives forever.

wow, congratulations! And welcome to the world Anders! :) He is wonderful!

....regarding the going natural and the epidural, I´ve thought about this a lot. There is NO WAY that women giving birth all feel the same amount of pain from the contractions. It just can´t be. After hearing how women who had all natural birth talk about the contractions in a "yeah, it was bad, but I just powered through it" - kind of way.... If they felt what I felt, they wouldn´t have done it without the epidural! ...how is it even possible, I wonder!?

Yeah...just had to get that out, haha.
