Remix - Rock n' Roll

Remix - Rock n' Roll

I shot this self-portrait last year during my 365 project. I decided to revisit it and give it a different treatment. I used Adobe Camera Raw to turn it to B&W and then I worked with the shadow and highlight tones to get the blue and purple.

Strobist -- Single SB-600 flash behind subject pointed at camera. I sprayed a water mist bottle in the air before posing for and remotely triggering the shot.

Angel #2

Angel #2

I did a picture of Ava a while back called My Little Angel. I was looking at this picture of Lilia and, as I was working on it (practicing my retouching skills), I was thinking that this was my Angel #2.

Strobist: SB-600 with a reflective umbrella left of camera and high. Second SB-600 bare shooting against a while wall behind Lilia. Both flashes were fired via the D700s onboard CLS system. You can pretty much see my setup if you look at the reflection in her eyes.

Lilia and Her Block

Lilia and Her Block

Lilia and I are hanging out today while Mommy and Ava travel to watch the Nutcracker. What a great opportunity to get some shots with the flashes. I took this with a reflective umbrella to the left and high of the camera (SB-600) and a flash (SB-600) behind Lilia aimed at the white wall behind her. Both flashes were fired wirelessly through the D700's pop-up flash using the CLS system.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

I took this the other day at our annual breakfast with Santa. Happy Holidays to all of my Flickr friends.

Hopefully, no one can tell, but it actually took more than I expected to get a decent Christmas photo. First, I brought one of my SB-600 flashes and triggered it off camera, aimed at the white ceiling, in order to get some predictable light. Next, with a short session with Santa, I wasn't able to get a shot where both girls and Santa looked good together, so, I combined two shots on the computer to get the smiles/faces that I liked. Last, the background at the breakfast was terrible. So, I loaded up a picture of some Christmas light bokeh that I had and threw it in instead of the drab, taupe background that was there in real life.
