For all my Mid-century Modern Flickrfriends ~ I realized that I haven't been posting enough "good" 1970s design [there really is some!].
Caption reads: In this room, an architectural feature-a fireplace wall that includes clerestory windows and a raised hearth [straight out of the Brady Bunch IMHO]-is the obvious center of interest. The texture and color of stones used in fireplace contstruction are as interesting to the eye as a painting. Wisely, other elements are played down [they keep the evil lion in the family room] so that the fireplace wall holds attention. Natural wood colors, neutral carpet color, off-white ceiling, and subdued color and pattern of sofa upholstery all contribute to playing up the rough-hewn attraction of interior stone. The scene visible through the clerestory windows above the fireplace is as spectacular as any painting, and it has been properly emphasized both by the architectural design and by the simplicity of furnishings.

Nicely spotted!
I have to say that this is the most Brady-esque interior shot I have come across, and it's a bit of an obsession with me (example: the main difference is that this is a beige shag rug while the BB house is a beige sculpted pile in the living room).
The rest is not identical, but boy is it similar! The passthrough over the fireplace, the placement and style of the couch and lamp, the square coffee table, and so on. But if the date of publication is 1970, then it's not necessarily one that inspired the design of the BB interior, though it could have been published earlier and elsewhere. Any info in the photo credits that might be a hint to when and where this was built?

No that's the problem with the Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement, you have no idea from which Meredith publication they've pulled these from. Nor do you have any idea about a date. This looks decidedly earlier than 1970, but I can only go with when the Encyclopedia was published in 1970.

There's a mid-century house down the street from me with large plate glass windows and rough stone. It fits into the landscape really well. I need to get a shot of it.

Considering it's a professional photo, it possibly was published somewhere else, too. I've also seen a few others you've posted that were also in other publications (and not Meredith titles). The hunt is on. Well, not the hunt, but at least we know it's out there and might stumble across it one day.........

the stone is a little much for my taste, I prefer flagstone stacked horizontally...but I must say that room would be awesome in the winter with a roarin fire

It looks very "Brady" to me too, but I like it. Ah heck, I like the Brady home too.
