Film on Film

    Nikon F100 / 35mm ~ f/2 * Velvia 50 * V700 * Peak-Imaging ~ On Black / FR

I'd had the Mamiya for about 6 hours, the sun was setting on my favourite spot to unwind and take pictures in London, this had to be done xD

I wasn't sure this was going to come out because looking in to the light tends to underexpose on auto and underexposed velvia is a nightmare to scan! Luckily I got another nice bit of camera porn =).

This Fuji Velvia 50 roll was expired by over a year. It was the last of the stock at a time when it was going to be discontinued (because of Velvia 100 I think). There seems to have been a few films that have gone and then come back recently I assume there has a bit of a film resurgence as people realise how different it is from digital. There are now now 3 different versions of Veliva whereas as in the days of only film (about 10 years ago) there was only one.

This is a real film border from the it being directly placed on the glass without the holder. There is no real edits on this other than getting the contrast to show the edges black but that's you have to do that with any shot when you scan, at least with Epson anyway.

thats cool :) I was a Minolta guy with film, then I bought a d70 one day....

Another one day in a camera shop, I came across a super clean used k1000 and a sweet little 300/4 that almost made me a Pentax guy....I still secretly envy a lot of the cool Pentax glass I wish I could afford to have too.

Nowadays all of my friends with sideburns, mutton chops, and/or bell bottoms are reluctant to be in photographs, otherwise we could get crackin' on some brochures for the next Nikon :)

very nice. I agree about the quality of the light with film. My canon 5D struggles to create natural looking highlights. I might try this scanning method with my V700 as I don't get particularly sharp scans using the film holder. I have some anti-newton ring glass inserts from Betterscanning.com which i could use to hold the negs down. have you tried these? They do help flatten negs down but sometimes you need to weight them down as they're pretty light and you can only use strips of 4 frames. They do help with sharpness but I soon got sick of the extra hassle involved and have stopped using the things. some day I'll invest in a proper dedicated 35mm scanner and rescan my best photos.

No I haven't got the glass inserts but I really want to get some. I can imagine the extra pain involved with the scanning, my scanner has to be got out of the box every time I want to use it because I don't have the space on my desk =(. Thanks for the link for the glass inserts too, I have been wondering where to get them for ages!! =). Yeah I also would love to have a dedicated film scanner one day but the only one I want is the Nikon ED9000 and it's a bit pricey!!
