      A-MAZING!!!!! Where were you when you took this shot? And what time was it? I'm going to see if I can't go down tonight and try to get some similar shots. Don't know if one night will make a huge difference or not. It won't be so perfectly round, but I'm hoping it will still look big and orange!

      The time was a few minutes after moonrise. Once the moon gets much above the horizon, it will be far too bright compared to almost any foreground feature (assuming you don't want an all-white moon or a sihouette foreground). The moon shining through so much atmosphere will scatter most of the blue light that is reflecting from it, so it will look red. The location in this case was a ridge about 25km from New York City. If you want the moon to look big relative to the foreground, you need a telephoto lens. Then you just back up until the foreground is the right size.
