“Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines” ~ John Benfield

Well, I spent a lot of time driving and scoping out different areas for photography this weekend but did not take many pictures. Saturday was an overcast and kind of grey day, but I did manage to capture this one bald eagle as she left the nest shortly before sun set.

I seems to me that the Great Horned Owls are more "affectionate" with their mother and each other than the Bald Eagles I normally photograph. The interaction I usually see with the eagles occurs during feeding, and I do not usually see much preening type activity with them. With the owls I noticed the young ones preening each others feathers and also with their mother. In this shot the little one was using his/her beak on the mother's facial feathers.

After spending almost 6 hours at the nest waiting, mom finally returned to feed the little ones. Whatever she fed them was already in the nest. Not 100% sure, but i think it was rabbit...
