MEN AT WORK

MEN AT WORK

Welder's work on a bow thruster of a large ship in Esquimalt Graving Dock at Victoria, B.C. The 'dry' dock, owned by the Federal Government of Canada, is the largest solid-bottom graving dock on the west coast of the America's. In October, 2011 the Federal Government awarded an $8 billion dollar ship building contract to B.C. That amount will provide thousands of high-paid jobs for years to come in the shipbuilding industry on the West Coast. From my archive. See info:

SNOW FUN

SNOW FUN

The fun was short lived for these kids seen blasting down a snow hill at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria B.C. on Jan.18. Four days later they would have to take their canoe to a lake for fun as the snow hill is now just green grass (well, sort of green).

RED WHITE & BLUE

RED WHITE & BLUE

Not quite the weather (the white stuff) to enjoy colourful deck chairs perched on a rock outcropping at McNeill Bay with a view over to the lighthouse on Trial Island. The original 'blue chair', that has been a photo op for many years for photographers, has been replaced by a new one and a red one added as well. The Trial Island Lighthouse was built in 1906 and has served boaters well over the years and a few lives have been saved over that time. However the Canadian Coast Guard, in their wisdom, had the light automated in 2009, dumb in my opinion! Here's some history on the lighthouse: www.oakbayvillage.ca/history/lighthouse.html
