For those of you who love history, here are links to a map of Paris in 1210, when it was contained by the medieval wall built under Philippe Auguste. At that time, the Louvre was still a fortified castle guarding the west approach of the Seine from any enemies that might be intent on attacking the fledgeling little town:

Several of the cafes in this series are situated along streets that were part of the medieval Paris. They escaped Haussman's vast urban renewal project of the mid 1800's and have endured through the centuries, wonderful vestiges of the ancient part of this beautiful city.
