An ancient doorway graced by an ancient ivy. This is in Gorbio, a perched village not far from the Mediterranean, in the Alpes Maritimes area of Provence. (See several more in this series at this post.)
It's been a pleasure to find these in my archives and work on them. Great memories of walking through these fascinating villages, in mid winter, when few visitors are out wandering the steps, passageways, and paths that meander past these hillside homes.
One can quietly take pictures, imagine the history that has taken place here, and feel deep respect for a way of life that is on a very human scale. Here the rhythm of the seasons has dictated activities, generation after generation. So very different from modern life that is more and more removed from nature, despite our very dependence on it, whether we acknowledge it or not.
I loved these villages and will be posting just a few more in this series. Have a great day Flickr friends!
