Piazza San Marco during the summer is very crowded. But in early spring, like on this day, the pigeons still have a privileged place on the square where they can enjoy warming themselves in the late afternoon sunshine. Across from the famous Florian is this other historic Caffe, the Gran Caffe Ristorante Quadri. Here is the link to this classic place, open since 1775 !!
Here is the home page of the Quadri: www.venetia.it/quadri/index.htm

It was a chilly Spring afternoon, but the sun was feeling good to visitors sitting out on San Marco Piazza, watching the pigeons, reading the paper, and visiting with friends. I liked all the different layers of patterns: architectural flourishes, curtains, lamps, arches, windows, people, chairs, pigeons, and pavement. Human design echoed in the world of nature and vice versa.
