Peaceful Night in the Castello, Venice
In December '08 Venice had heavy flooding, and a surge reached close to 1.6 meters. Description: Already my trip to Venice in February - March 2007 has drifted into the realm of dreams rather than memories. Going through my archives these last few days, excited to post new material to Flickr, musing on this extraordinary place saturated in history, I land on this shot, and dive into the mood I remember, trying to express what I felt. It was winter, it was cold, it was still, it was magical. Walking back every evening to the little apartment in the Castello I had rented, with the afternoon's "catch" waiting in my camera like a treasure to be discovered when I downloaded it to my laptop, I would savor the atmosphere of this amazing place. I'd walk slowly along the little rios and fondamentis letting the history just soak through my senses. The quiet lets one dream in Venice. What a pleasure!

Faraway in my sweet and wonderful home place, on the other side of the globe all my friends and neighbors were sleeping, with only the occasional sound of frogs or owls, and the rhythmic soft roar of the waves crashing in the distance against the shore.
What a remarkable thing that we can travel as we do in this modern era. How wonderful to become citizens of Planet Earth, rather than identifying so tightly to our own nationality.

Not sure whether you're interested in critique at all? If you are, then there are a few very minor things that I might be tempted to consider if this one were mine. Firstly, to me it seems ever so slightly tilted; try rotating it 0.75°CCW and see what you think; I'm basing that on the reflections in the centre of the frame. To me the sky also feels a little bit blotchy/noisy, it shouldn't be smooth, but I'd prefer it with a fraction less texture I think. It's all subjective though, and despite those thoughts, I like it!
