November 18 2007 day 38 - No food for you!

I'm fasting today. I try and fast once a week to give my body a chance to detox. I also validate and readjust my insulin basal rates. I wouldn't be able to go on a fast if I wasn't on an insulin pump. The pump allows me to dial down my insulin basal rate at the touch of a button. That's impossible to do with long acting insulin injections, because once you inject the long acting insulin, you cannot counter/undo its effect.

Basal insulin is the steady trickle of insulin that's needed by the body to keep blood sugars in check. A good example of basal insulin in action is when you're sleeping.

There is no cure for diabetes, yet.

      Julie,
I try my best. But the body has a mind of its own.
