This possum is a beauty. It has a large tree hollow just near our shack in Victoria in amongst a Eucalypt forest. It's interesting to watch him at night and see just how much time it spends on the ground. It will occasionally move through the tree tops, from tree to tree and seems to perfer moving easily on the ground. I always assumed that its behaviour was really dominated by the presence of predators but l really seems to be in no hurry when moving on the ground. It certainly doesn't seem to come out on windy nights - because l'm assuming that it knows that it won't be able to easily hear a predator. The only predators in the area are the occasional wild dog and of course, foxes (l'm guessing that a fox wouldn't be able to takle a large, healthy possum but perhaps l'm wrong?).
