Between Life & Death

Between Life & Death

It's a macro shot of a candlewick on the verge of turnig off.

This shot is taken from behind the candlewick's head (it becomes like that when it has been burning for a while and it bends towards one edge) while I softly blew out, just enough to make the head lose heat and turn darker, but not as much as to switch it off.

This is literaly between life and death. It's the most unusual silhouette I've ever taken. The white part is the flame. Focus has been made manually and very carefully. Also, the frame is severely cropped.

Just Looking

Just Looking

I took this shot for a local competion, In Memoriam: Eve Arnold. She was a renowned photographer working for the Magnum Agency. She‘s often remember for her shots of Marilyn Monroe, though she‘s made very insightful documental work too all over the world.

It was very rewarding to examine Eve Arnold‘s work. I think all photographers benefit from pondering over the performance of photography masters ahead of our digital time.

Luxury

Luxury

This Zeiss old beauty has left my hands now, to the hands of her owner for 34 years :) I didn't say goodbye to her without a proper shooting - and she was the model now.

I know - I know. A portrait like this is usually taken showing the front. But I kind of like this photo better... Whatever!

Confined

Confined

A candlewick, captive of its own flame. This is the furthest out it can go, without dying. The deep blue color of the flame's border reminds me of the earth's atmosphere.

And we, just like the candlewick, are constricted to this amazing sphere - the atmosphere, and are likewise being consumed little by little.

Silent Dance

Silent Dance

These were fast paced aurorae. Their dance is so harmonious and gracefully choreographed, that it just won't cease to impress me, even if I've watched it many times.

A perfect ballet.
